MARO Regional Youth Summit was a HIT!
Youth and Reality Check Coordinators from the Hudson Valley, the 5 boroughs, and Long Island came together in Manhattan to learn more about how local and state government work and utilizing their unique experiences and insights to become agents of change in the ongoing fight against the tobacco industry and youth addiction.
Our training also served as preparation for the Tobacco Control Program's Legislative Education Day in a couple of weeks where youth will meet with their legislators and tell them why effective tobacco control is still needed and how products like cigarettes, e-cigarettes, nicotine pouches, and others impact their daily lives.
The second half of our trip took us to Madame Tussauds Wax Museum in Times Square where Reality Check youth did a scavenger hunt for celebrities and historical figures with unfortunate ties to smoking and vaping in their movies and/or personal lives.
Special thank you to Paola,#knowbetterlivebUnited Community Center of Westchester INC. Evelyn from United Community Center of Westchester INC. for joining POW'R on this trip. ... See MoreSee Less
Teen daily nicotine use is a common and useful proxy for dependence. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/pdfdirect/10.1111/add.15403 US teen daily use of nicotine is now at a 50-year low, near nil, according to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) MTF survey. So I suggest you focus on something that ACTUALLY HARMS TEENS. Try binge drinking. According to the CDC, that kills 4,000 US teens every year. 9% of teens report binge drinking. Only 2.3% vape nicotine frequently.
